Patch Notes 21-JUL-2026

Client Changelog

  • New: Animation system rework
    • Players will now open and close their hands depending on whether they have weapons equipped.
    • Animations should no longer be interrupted by movement, and now they’ll just play from the waist up while moving. This also means many more animations should correctly show when riding a mount or commanding a vehicle.
    • Walking and running animations should no longer snap between poses and should now be more fluid.
    • Player walking animations should now be better synced with the terrain, reducing foot sliding.
    • Looping animations (such as action animations) should no longer sometimes snap between poses.
    • Animations should no longer cancel other animations, but instead will be queued to happen after them, unless their priority is higher.
    • Combat should now show more of the animations that are supposed to play for different combat events, such as being stunned.
    • Player feet will now be more aligned to the terrain underneath, reducing the clipping when going up high slopes etc.
  • New: Added weapon sheathing.
    • You can now sheathe your weapons and shields to back and hip slots depending on the weapon type.
    • You can sheathe your weapons using the new quickbar buttons that can be added to the quickbar through the + button, or by using a new keybind (TOGGLE_SHEATHE), bound by default to the Backslash key ( \ ).
    • Your weapons will automatically unsheathe when you’re in combat (so if you have a target), and it should sheathe back when you exit combat.
    • Weapon sheathing is purely visual and should not affect any combat functionality.
  • New: Creatures will now randomly look at players walking around them. They will also glance at players performing loud actions in their vicinity
  • New: Mounts and hitched creatures will now look and lean towards the turning direction.
  • Bugfix: Walls and fences placed on top of other walls should no longer display a shorter variant of the wall, showing a gap between them.
  • Bugfix: The game should no longer freeze when placing items emitting particles.

Server Changelog

  • New: The master cape can now be dyed, with separate colour slots for the trim and the cape’s body.
    • All master capes have been set to a color resembling the old default color, so you will need to remove the current color using lye before dyeing it.
  • Change: Action timer for applying lightning grease and gale oil has been decreased from 20 seconds to 5 seconds.
  • Change: (PVE Only) Actions targeting wounds, such as bandaging, are no longer canceled by traveling too far away from where the action started. This should make these actions easier to perform while riding a vehicle. Moving too far away from the targeted creature or player will still cancel the action.
  • Change: Walls can now be supported by a perpendicular wall below on a corner. Left and right arches must be supported by the pillar side of the arch, T arches cannot be supported this way.
  • Change: Old champagne bottles will now again show the 10 year anniversary graphics.
  • Bugfix: Lighting a lantern attached to a vehicle should now light the lantern itself, instead of accidentally targeting the vehicle and making it extremely hot.
  • Bugfix: Fixed a bug with some floors or walls saying they’d collapse from lack of support erroneously in some cases.
  • Bugfix: Destruction of a wall or fence should no longer cause wall-hung items far above or below that wall to drop to the ground. Now, only items within the height range of the wall or fence will fall to the ground. Other values have also been tweaked to prevent items on adjacent walls or fences from falling down as well, although this may still occur in some cases where the item is fairly close to the wall or fence being destroyed.
  • Bugfix: Fixed upper-level floors getting in the way of mining a cave ceiling even when you’re standing on them.
  • Bugfix: Resolved an issue causing decay damage reduction runes to have the opposite of their intended effect. They will now reduce decay damage instead of increasing it.
  • Bugfix: Fixed some decay damage modifiers, including decay damage reduction runes, applying to all damage instead of only decay damage.
  • Bugfix: Fixed pawns being able to jump a piece on their first move in Chess.
  • Bugfix: Fixed misleading message when trying to ride certain items that can’t be embarked upon, such as small carts and hitching posts.
  • Bugfix: Changing colour of your armour or cape while it’s worn should now properly update your player model, without having to re-equip the item.
  • Bugfix: Fixed a bug causing some actions targeting a tile not not be blocked properly by fences.
  • Bugfix: “Reduce damage taken” runes no longer apply to decay damage.
  • Bugfix: Effects modifying damage taken by items, such as from material or runes, are now applied in many situations where they were previously absent. This includes, but is not limited to: Using a pendulum, damage to creature cages from having a creature unloaded or inside them, vehicles being hit by hostile creatures, and items being bashed by players.

Patch Notes 23-JUN-2026

Server Changelog

  • Change: Riding a creature and embarking on it as a passenger have been converted to the new action system, with the following improvements:
    • Riding a creature no longer requires manually leading it first, but only if leading would actually allow the player to ride it. This has all the requirements of the Lead action itself, and will fail with the same messages as the Lead action if leading would be impossible (e.g. no rope available). This will allow for skipping the “Lead” action entirely if it would succeed anyway and would allow riding the creature.
    • Fixed some minor typographical errors in related messages.
  • Bugfix: Various bugs related to dropping tents have been fixed:
    • The “ground is too wet” message will now only occur if part of the tile is below sea level. Previously, this also occurred at exactly sea level.
    • The “ground is too wet” check is now performed underground, not only on the surface, so dropping tents underwater in a cave is no longer possible. It is also no longer triggered by water on surrounding tiles aside from the one the tent is dropped on, or if the tent is being dropped on a floor or bridge.
    • Checks for village or perimeter are now only performed on the actual tile the tent is dropped on, not surrounding tiles.
  • Bugfix Fixed not being able to remove non-support floor plans inside a house.
  • Bugfix: Fixed cave walls getting in the way of building walls along their borders.
  • Bugfix: Fixed an issue with bridge walls blocking actions when the wall was on the other side of the tile.

Art Changelog

  • Bugfix: Fixed sealed wagoner crates missing a texture.
  • Bugfix: Fixed Metal fishing reels, Pile of oats, Hammer heads and Hammer piles of certain metals showing wrong model.
  • Bugfix: Fixed many cases of armor jackets clipping through drake hide cap neck shield.
  • Bugfix: Fixed back of the head easily sticking through great helm.

Patch Notes 02-JUN-2026

Server Changelog

  • Change: Floors on top of destroyed/unfinished supports will take more decay damage.
  • Change: Floors on top of supports can now be bashed without first destroying the house on top of them if one exists – if it does the floor will revert to a plan and cannot be removed without first removing the tile from the house.
  • Change: Dock supports can now be bashed without first destroying the floor on top of it – if there is a floor the support will revert to a plan.
  • Change: Affinities will now transfer to/from Defiance. On the first Defiance/NFI transfer after the update, the higher value of the two sets for an Affinity will be saved for each skill.
  • Bugfix: Fixed mining and tunneling failing silently if the action would create a new cave exit too close to an existing cave exit.
  • Bugfix: Removed duplicated “Remove reinforcement” entry in right-click menus on reinforced cave exits.
  • Bugfix: Corrected error message when trying to plan a building on a cave exit tile.
  • Bugfix: Fixed crude wooden rail fence gate animation and description.
  • Bugfix: Telling a pet to “Go here” on an adjacent tile will no longer report they can’t reach that location if they also start moving there.
  • Bugfix: Fixed some code issues causing problems with Defiance missions, such as missions being replaced even when in progress and/or not expired yet, or not being replaced at all.
  • Bugfix: Fixed Defiance mission-related event messages sometimes saying “waiting for help” instead of the actual new mission name.
  • Bugfix: Items and creatures will no longer fall through mine doors when dirt or sand is dropped on a nearby tile.
  • Bugfix: Fixed an issue that would prevent the player from being forced to stop dragging an item, such as when embarking on a vehicle while dragging a cart.
  • Bugfix: Line of sight checks involving floors, docks, and bridges as blocking objects have been updated to be more accurate.
  • Bugfix: Siege engine projectile checks for hitting floors, docks, and bridges have been updated to be more accurate.
  • Bugfix: Merchants and traders should no longer sometimes fall down to the ground floor after a server restart.
  • Bugfix: Due to buggy behavior, dishwater has been removed as a possible scrap material when crafting items.
  • Bugfix: Trying to cross by boat to a PvP server while having disabled PvP transfers will now show the correct message explaining that in event chat.
  • Bugfix: Fixed capitalization of tile type names in an error message when placing an item.
  • Bugfix: When checking for existing items that would block dropping or placing an item onto the ground, the correct tile should now be checked more reliably.

Client Changelog

  • New: All actions that were converted to the new actions system can now be quickbound to a key directly from the context menu, without requiring the keybind to be added to the client settings first.

  • New: Inventory item tooltip will now list the components required to complete the item.
  • New: Added multiple new action keybinds. These can be bound by the settings menu, or by using the console with those keybind names:

    • REMOVE_PAINT1, REMOVE_PAINT2
    • LOCKPICK

  • Bugfix: Hair and clothing colors in character window and character customization window should no longer differ from how they look in the game world.
  • Bugfix: Roofs in caves will no longer block and disable the third person camera on the surface above them.
  • Bugfix: Player’s target (and target bar) will now be cleared when changing servers.

Art Changelog

  • New: Crude wooden rail fences and gates now have their own models.

Hotfix #1 Notes

  • Change: PvP kills on Defiance will no longer cause affinities to be transferred between players. We’re looking to introduce an alternative mechanic to make up for this, see the feedback thread here: https://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/211672-pvp-affinity-mechanics/
  • Bugfix: Fixed an issue preventing players from exiting some bridges.
  • Bugfix: Fixed various issues related to line of sight checks, making it so you couldn’t reach certain items.

May 2026 Monthly Skin

A slightly curved and slender sword, not dissimilar in shape to a dragon’s fang.

  • Dark Maul (large maul)

Patch Notes 28-APR-2026

Server Changelog

  • New: A new fence and gate type, “crude wooden rail fence”, has been added and can be built by players. This fence type is simpler to construct than others, but is easier to bash and decays much more quickly, making them useful as temporary fencing during rifts, other events, and inside goblin camps:
    • They will now be used inside goblin camps instead of other fence types.
    • Crude wooden rail fences and gates 4 wooden beams to build, and uses wooden beams to repair and improve.
    • They cannot be built inside buildings.
    • Decay applied to them is much higher than for other fence types, increasing the higher the damage already is. Like other fences, they will not decay inside villages with at least 30 days of upkeep remaining, or inside goblin camps.
    • Bashing them does significantly more damage than it would to other wooden fences, except inside goblin camps.
    • Ritual of the Sun will not repair them unless they are inside a village.
    • For the sake of clarity, existing types of fencing built with wooden planks have been renamed: “Wooden fence” is now “Wooden post fence”, and “Crude wooden fence” is now “Wooden plank fence”.
    • The new fence type currently has the same appearance as wooden post fences. This is temporary, while the model for the new fence is being finalized.
  • Change: Boat transfers have been updated to be more reliable and should no longer leave passengers and their boats on different servers if an error occurs.
  • Change: Gravestones can now be used to bury corpses in caves and on surface rock.
  • Change: Karma Teleport can now select from normal spawn points as a destination, excluding tents.
  • Change: Rune colors now use a different method of selecting the color to make the results more varied.
  • Change: Right clicking a floor plan that cannot be removed now states what piece is blocking the floor from being removed.
  • Change: On PVE servers, using a portal now requires only 30 seconds of time since last being attacked. The requirement of 5 minutes is still in place on PVP servers.
  • Change: Players can now queue surface mining actions on tile borders.
  • Change: Venom arrows now work like Venom weapons, dealing scaling Poison damage (80% normal damage at 0 power, 100% at 100 power) but without instant death poison applied.
  • Bugfix: Select Bar Fixes:
    • The Repair action now shows the icon for the correct item type in the right-click menu when appropriate.
    • The Improve action now appears in the correct place in the right-click menu, and shows the correct icon, when targeting a roof, floor, or bridge part.
    • The Improve and Repair actions should now appear consistently in the select bar for finished walls, fences, floors, roofs, and bridge parts, and not when they are unbuilt or only partially built.
    • The Continue action should now appear consistently in the select bar for partially built walls, fences, floors, ceilings, and roofs, and not when they are completely unbuilt or already finished.
  • Bugfix: Removed duplicate “continue wall” action in right-click menus.
  • Bugfix: When opening a new tunnel, players and other creatures standing on that tile will now be correctly moved to the cave layer.
  • Bugfix: The select bar updating will no longer sometimes prevent new actions from being added to the action queue.
  • Bugfix: Fixed items close to the northwest corner of the server not being loaded properly when the server is started, or otherwise behaving strangely.
  • Bugfix: Fixed an issue where mining cave ceilings could be blocked by a floor incorrectly.
  • Bugfix: If a chicken coop or creature cage is destroyed in a manner that would put the contained creature item on the ground, the creature will now appear at that location instead of the item.
  • Bugfix: Loading locked items into vehicles is now possible without holding the key, as long as the player has permission to open the item.
  • Bugfix: Fixed an issue preventing the placement of items on top of other items near walls when the item being placed on is rotated.
  • Bugfix:  Flattening or leveling with a dredge now fails if all corners of the flattened tile or tile border are below your maximum dredging depth, to match the Dredge action.
  • Bugfix:  “Dredge” will no longer appear erroneously in menus when right-clicking areas above-ground that cannot be dredged.
  • Bugfix: Fixed some floors blocking tunneling.
  • Bugfix: Hitched horses stuck inside cave walls will no longer be repeatedly re-sent to the client, resulting in client performance drops.
  • Bugfix: Fixed locked containers from losing their lock when crossing servers.
  • Bugfix: Wound healing rate examine/hover text should now update immediately any time the wound’s severity changes. This should fix situations where a creature’s existing wound gets worse from an attack in combat or other source, but displays old healing rate information.
  • Bugfix: Fixed being able to create cave entrances with sloped upper borders when creating a wide cave entrance. It is no longer possible to expand a cave entrance if doing so would lower part of the upper border of the existing cave entrance.
  • Bugfix: The combat equipment QL curve is now properly applied to thrown weapons.
  • Bugfix: Throwing an item in combat should no longer have a chance to instantly destroy the item unless it is a bulk item, or liquid. The item may still break if throwing it happens to cause enough damage for the item’s total damage to exceed 100.
  • Bugfix: Eliminated redundant error message when failing to expand a cave entrance from inside a cave.
  • Bugfix: Locked containers will no longer lose track of their locks when changing servers.
  • Bugfix: Fish inside keep nets attached to a boat will now properly transfer with the rest of the boat.
  • Bugfix: Finishing a floor on an upper level of a building will no longer cause items on a floor on the ground to sink down visually to ground level beneath the floor.
  • Bugfix: Tunneling a cave entrance should no longer result in items that cannot be interacted with, items in the wrong item piles, or other problems resulting in items that cannot be seen or moved on the cave entrance.

Client Changelog

  • Change: Rendering of light glow effects should now be more performant.
  • Bugfix: Village recruitment board should now again show the recruitment ads instead of an empty window.
  • Bugfix: Fixed “Toggle selection outlines” button not playing UI sounds.
  • Bugfix: Turning the camera using the mouse or touchpad on Mac should no longer result in jittery movement.
  • Bugfix: UI scrolling behaviour on Mac should now be more consistent and smooth.
  • Bugfix: Rotating items while placing them using the touchpad on Mac should no longer make them spin too fast.
  • Bugfix: Crossing certain tiles on the client should no longer reload door models and break the door opening animations.
  • Bugfix: Riding a horse into a cave wall very fast should no longer cause you to disembark and make the horse invisible.

Art Changelog

  • New: Added piles for Valrei Item, Valrei Mission Item, Iron Rock and Eyes.
  • Change: Increased huge epic portal texture resolution.
  • Change: Modified tables, crates, bulk storage bins and benches so as to prevent z-fighting when they are pushed into each other.
