Patch Notes 21-JUL-2026

Client Changelog

  • New: Animation system rework
    • Players will now open and close their hands depending on whether they have weapons equipped.
    • Animations should no longer be interrupted by movement, and now they’ll just play from the waist up while moving. This also means many more animations should correctly show when riding a mount or commanding a vehicle.
    • Walking and running animations should no longer snap between poses and should now be more fluid.
    • Player walking animations should now be better synced with the terrain, reducing foot sliding.
    • Looping animations (such as action animations) should no longer sometimes snap between poses.
    • Animations should no longer cancel other animations, but instead will be queued to happen after them, unless their priority is higher.
    • Combat should now show more of the animations that are supposed to play for different combat events, such as being stunned.
    • Player feet will now be more aligned to the terrain underneath, reducing the clipping when going up high slopes etc.
  • New: Added weapon sheathing.
    • You can now sheathe your weapons and shields to back and hip slots depending on the weapon type.
    • You can sheathe your weapons using the new quickbar buttons that can be added to the quickbar through the + button, or by using a new keybind (TOGGLE_SHEATHE), bound by default to the Backslash key ( \ ).
    • Your weapons will automatically unsheathe when you’re in combat (so if you have a target), and it should sheathe back when you exit combat.
    • Weapon sheathing is purely visual and should not affect any combat functionality.
  • New: Creatures will now randomly look at players walking around them. They will also glance at players performing loud actions in their vicinity
  • New: Mounts and hitched creatures will now look and lean towards the turning direction.
  • Bugfix: Walls and fences placed on top of other walls should no longer display a shorter variant of the wall, showing a gap between them.
  • Bugfix: The game should no longer freeze when placing items emitting particles.

Server Changelog

  • New: The master cape can now be dyed, with separate colour slots for the trim and the cape’s body.
    • All master capes have been set to a color resembling the old default color, so you will need to remove the current color using lye before dyeing it.
  • Change: Action timer for applying lightning grease and gale oil has been decreased from 20 seconds to 5 seconds.
  • Change: (PVE Only) Actions targeting wounds, such as bandaging, are no longer canceled by traveling too far away from where the action started. This should make these actions easier to perform while riding a vehicle. Moving too far away from the targeted creature or player will still cancel the action.
  • Change: Walls can now be supported by a perpendicular wall below on a corner. Left and right arches must be supported by the pillar side of the arch, T arches cannot be supported this way.
  • Change: Old champagne bottles will now again show the 10 year anniversary graphics.
  • Bugfix: Lighting a lantern attached to a vehicle should now light the lantern itself, instead of accidentally targeting the vehicle and making it extremely hot.
  • Bugfix: Fixed a bug with some floors or walls saying they’d collapse from lack of support erroneously in some cases.
  • Bugfix: Destruction of a wall or fence should no longer cause wall-hung items far above or below that wall to drop to the ground. Now, only items within the height range of the wall or fence will fall to the ground. Other values have also been tweaked to prevent items on adjacent walls or fences from falling down as well, although this may still occur in some cases where the item is fairly close to the wall or fence being destroyed.
  • Bugfix: Fixed upper-level floors getting in the way of mining a cave ceiling even when you’re standing on them.
  • Bugfix: Resolved an issue causing decay damage reduction runes to have the opposite of their intended effect. They will now reduce decay damage instead of increasing it.
  • Bugfix: Fixed some decay damage modifiers, including decay damage reduction runes, applying to all damage instead of only decay damage.
  • Bugfix: Fixed pawns being able to jump a piece on their first move in Chess.
  • Bugfix: Fixed misleading message when trying to ride certain items that can’t be embarked upon, such as small carts and hitching posts.
  • Bugfix: Changing colour of your armour or cape while it’s worn should now properly update your player model, without having to re-equip the item.
  • Bugfix: Fixed a bug causing some actions targeting a tile not not be blocked properly by fences.
  • Bugfix: “Reduce damage taken” runes no longer apply to decay damage.
  • Bugfix: Effects modifying damage taken by items, such as from material or runes, are now applied in many situations where they were previously absent. This includes, but is not limited to: Using a pendulum, damage to creature cages from having a creature unloaded or inside them, vehicles being hit by hostile creatures, and items being bashed by players.

Patch Notes 30-JUN-2026

Server Changelog

  • New: Added Gale oil and Lightning grease items that apply temporary speed-up effects to vehicles. These items are available as loot in treasure chests.
    • Gale oil: applied to your boat, this item will boost the effective wind applied to the boat, causing it to act as if you’re sailing with the wind even when you’re going against it, but also increasing the wind power even if you are going in the wind direction already
    • Lightning grease: applied to land vehicles, it will boost the speed for a while
  • Change: Sleep powder from the following sources has been replaced with sleep candy: treasure maps, roaming/supply depots, random kill loot on PvP servers
    • The weight of sleep candy decides on how much sleep bonus it gives. The pieces of candy will grant you 30 minutes of sleep bonus on average, but the weight is randomized.
    • Sleep candy decays, but it should last a couple of weeks in your inventory.
    • Sleep candy is not tradeable and cannot be transferred out of your inventory.
  • Change: Changes to treasure map loot
    • Sleep powder has been replaced with the sleep candy item
      • The amount of these items remains the same, so treasures that previously had multiple sleep powders, will now have the same amount of pieces of the sleep candy
    • Gale oil and lightning grease have been added as common loot
    • More weapon types are now available in the loot pool
    • Metal weapons can now be found in a wider variety of materials
    • Common loot changes:
      • Chess pieces are now less common
      • Square piece of canvas (not cloth) have been added to the pool
    • An additional rare loot pool has been added. This includes:
      • Elemental weapon damage potions (including fire, at lower chance than the others)
        • These are not available on Defiance, so you’re more likely to get moon metal and spell gems instead on that server
      • Duck and squirrel figurines
      • Source seeds
      • Moon metal and empyrean lumps
      • Quicksilver tonics
      • Selection of spell gems (some spell gems remain unique to goblin camps, while some are unique to treasure maps)

Patch Notes 23-JUN-2026

Server Changelog

  • Change: Riding a creature and embarking on it as a passenger have been converted to the new action system, with the following improvements:
    • Riding a creature no longer requires manually leading it first, but only if leading would actually allow the player to ride it. This has all the requirements of the Lead action itself, and will fail with the same messages as the Lead action if leading would be impossible (e.g. no rope available). This will allow for skipping the “Lead” action entirely if it would succeed anyway and would allow riding the creature.
    • Fixed some minor typographical errors in related messages.
  • Bugfix: Various bugs related to dropping tents have been fixed:
    • The “ground is too wet” message will now only occur if part of the tile is below sea level. Previously, this also occurred at exactly sea level.
    • The “ground is too wet” check is now performed underground, not only on the surface, so dropping tents underwater in a cave is no longer possible. It is also no longer triggered by water on surrounding tiles aside from the one the tent is dropped on, or if the tent is being dropped on a floor or bridge.
    • Checks for village or perimeter are now only performed on the actual tile the tent is dropped on, not surrounding tiles.
  • Bugfix Fixed not being able to remove non-support floor plans inside a house.
  • Bugfix: Fixed cave walls getting in the way of building walls along their borders.
  • Bugfix: Fixed an issue with bridge walls blocking actions when the wall was on the other side of the tile.

Art Changelog

  • Bugfix: Fixed sealed wagoner crates missing a texture.
  • Bugfix: Fixed Metal fishing reels, Pile of oats, Hammer heads and Hammer piles of certain metals showing wrong model.
  • Bugfix: Fixed many cases of armor jackets clipping through drake hide cap neck shield.
  • Bugfix: Fixed back of the head easily sticking through great helm.

  • New: Inventory item tooltip will now list the components required to complete the item.
  • New: Added multiple new action keybinds. These can be bound by the settings menu, or by using the console with those keybind names:
    • COLLECT_ASH
    • PAINT1, PAINT2
    • REMOVE_PAINT1, REMOVE_PAINT2
    • LOCKPICK
  • Change: Embark as driver keybind will now also work on animal mounts, activating the Ride action on those instead.
  • Bugfix: Hair and clothing colors in character window and character customization window should no longer differ from how they look in the game world.

Art Changelog
